Chinanews, Apr.27 - After nearly three years of wilderness training, a
born-in-captivity male giant panda named "Xiangxiang" will be formally
released to the wild on April 28. This will be the first time that a
captive giant panda is sent back to the nature after wilderness training
in the world.
"Xiangxiang" was born at the China Giant Panda Protection and Research
Center in Sichuan Province's Wolong Nature Reserve in August, 2001. It
was chosen to receive wilderness training at the age of two. Early this
year, experts concluded that "Xiangxiang" was ready to return to the
nature.
After thorough preparation, the Center decided to send "Xiangxiang" back
to the wild on April 28.
