3G mobile phone to see 30 mln new users every year

www.chinanews.cn 2006-03-03 11:08:36

Chinanews, Mar. 3 C A report released by a national professional
research company CCID Consulting Firm predictes that Chinas 3G telecom
industry will see a booming season in the next four years, with about 30
million new subscribers adding to the new market every year.
The report, released at the 2006 Annual Meeting on Chinas Telecom
Marketing, says that as global 3G telecom industry is undergoing fast
momentum of development and Chinas national 3G technology becomes
mature, there is a strong probability for Chinese government to issue the
3G licensing board this year, although there still remains some
controversial discussion regarding the future telecom structure in China
and discussion on whether 3G technology would stimulate a new round of
merging activities in Chinas telecom industry.
According to the report, telecom providers will lay the basic 3G network
structure in large cities for trial use this year and most of 3G users
also remain in large cities. As the network expands, the number of 3G
mobile phone users will increase remarkably over the next four years in
China.
The report predicts that China will have 2.12 million 3G mobile phone
users by this year and in 2010, such number will increase to 120 million.
Statistics from the Ministry of Information Industry show that China
currently has over 400 million mobile phone subscribers.

China to invest more in compulsory education

www.chinanews.cn 2006-03-01 16:43:45

Chinanews, Mar. 1 - Chinese Minister of Education Zhou Ji announced on
the press conference held by the State Council Information Office on Feb.
28 that local and central finance will add 218.2 billion RMB (US$26.91
billion) of investment in compulsory education in the next five years,
and compulsory education in rural areas will be completely funded by
public finance.
Zhou said that according to current plan, central finance will bear 80%
of new investment while local finance will shoulder 20%. That means the

latter (including eastern regions) will appropriate 92.8 billion RMB.
Zhou added that since 2003, China has been putting greater efforts in
regulating illegal charges in education. It has dispatched a total of
56,000 inspection teams, checked more than 876,000 schools of various
levels and categories, cleared and returned over 1.32 billion RMB of
illegal charges and tackled 19,000 cases involving illegal charges. 5,931

Many mothers-to-be and fathers-to-be were practicing gymnastics for
pregnant women together in Suzhou Medical Center for Maternal and
Children's Health on Feb. 18th. It was learned that such gymnastics will
help relax expectant mothers' muscles and joints on waist and pelvis so
as to prevent muscular fatigue and function decline due to weight growth
and change of center of gravity during pregnancy. Moreover, such
gymnastics can not only help these couples get well-prepared for the
delivery but also strengthen their relationship.

China launched anti-AIDS campaign for migrant workers

www.chinanews.cn 2006-02-08 15:08:31

Chinanews, Kunming, Feb. 8 C A campaign that aims to teach migrant
workers on the prevention of AIDS disease was recently kicked off in
southwest Chinas Yunnan province. Wang Yuanxin, director of the
Floating Population Department of the Yunnan Population Control
Committee, said that the pilot project in Yunnan will offer a
comprehensive service to inform migrant workers of the AIDS disease and
methods for disease prevention and treatment, with married migrant women
being the key group in this project.
It is estimated that at present, about 140 million labor force move from
rural regions to large cities for employment and Yunnan has nearly 4
million such migrant workers, according to available statistics. Such
number will continue to grow in future. As almost all these migrant
workers are aged between 18-49 and do not have sufficient physiology,
psychology or hygiene knowledge, publicizing knowledge on AIDS prevention
becomes an imperative task.
Wang said that women played an important role in birth giving process and
they should be informed in a convenient and easy way about knowledge of
AIDS. While the project aimed at providing knowledge for all migrant
workers, married migrant women would be the main group in the project. By
offering community trainings, publicizing pictures and pamphlets, and
issuing free condoms at railway station, it is expected that migrant
women workers would be more aware of self-protection and take measures to
stay away from the disease.
