www.chinanews.cn 2005-12-08 13:49:10
Chinanews, Dec. 8 - Like other kinds of "Olympic industry," Beijing
Olympic internship courses have also become hot. 20 quotas offered in a
university have attracted more than 400 students to apply.
A relevant official from the Graduate Office of Beijing Language and
Culture University (BLCU) revealed that the 20 Olympic intern students
will be screened out among new graduate students majoring in English
literature and foreign linguistics. The 2006 postgraduate admission
brochure has clearly illustrated the Olympic internship program. At
present more than 400 students have applied for these two majors,
signifying that one out of twenty will be chosen.
"We never imagined this fever," said the BLCU official. According to
Beijing Daily reports, a fever of application for these two majors can be
seen in universities that have signed a memorandum of cooperation on
nurturing Olympic intern students with the Beijing Organizing Committee
for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), including Peking University,
Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University and China University of
Political Science and Law.
BOCOG signed memorandums of cooperation on cultivating Olympic intern
students with 16 universities in Beijing this September. It was learned
that those intern students will be full-time students recruited by the
above universities in accordance with China's policies. Receiving joint
education from the universities and BOCOG, those intern students will
learn fundamental courses, professional courses and Olympic-related
knowledge. During internship, they will take part in various preparatory
works conducted by BOCOG.
Beijing Olympics will nurture 706 intern students, covering nine majors
such as law, foreign language, journalism and communication, and
logistics. Among them, 446 will be graduate students, 118 will be
undergraduate students and 142 will be vocational high school students.
