Chinanews, Beijing, Jan.17 (By Han Xiao and Lai Hailong) - Qiang Wei,
deputy director of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, revealed on Jan. 16th
that Beijing will commence official volunteer recruitment for Beijing
Olympic Games in June this year, which will target university students
and be open to those from all sectors of the society.
Qiang said that volunteers are an important component of Olympic Games
preparation. Beijing citizens are enthusiastic and hospitable with the
sense of honor and responsibility for the capital of China, which is a
favorable premise and basis. Olympic Games volunteers will be mainly
composed of young people and the volunteer recruitment is open to all
parts of China and the globe. Beijing welcomes young people from Hong
Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well as those from other countries and regions
to join the volunteer group. This reflects the international orientation,
extensiveness and inclusiveness of the volunteer group. This volunteer
recruitment will not only serve the Olympic Games, but also help promote
the development of China's volunteer services.
